Lumanit – Luminous Smart Fabric

3D Waves of Light

Lumanit project combines materials research, making and form finding, while focusing on the future of textiles and technology in diverse applications, ranging from clothing to products and architectural installation.

The addition of interactive technology to objects brings an exponential change in the perception of garments, products and building materials, heightening the human experience.

What we did

  • Interactive smart textile creation
  • Form exploration and prototyping
  • 3D knit technology
  • Sensor and interaction design

Parametrically designed luminous smart fabric

Inspired by nature and based on algorithmic thinking, parametric design is a process where the relationship between elements is used to manipulate and inform the design of complex geometries and structures.

Embedded light fiber

Using computer parametric software and 3D knitting technology, the project explores new ways to find innovative textures, forms and applications for lighting.

The knitted pieces we are creating in collaboration with Versalume are focusing on incorporating Corning Fibrance Light-Diffusing Fiber and sensing technology into fabric constructions.
